Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk are the perfect thing for our Aussie fighters.

When the card for UFC 193 was first announced I was excited, but not under the elusion the card was ‘stacked’ as some Australian media outlets were saying.

In their defence the media outlets I speak off are mainly uneducated on MMA and wouldn’t even be reporting on the UFC if wasn’t for the stadium show planned for Melbourne this November.

The original card was as expected with an Aussie in almost every fight and this is both a positive and a negative in my eyes. The positive is the perceived ‘boost’ they will get fighting on home soil and the advantage they will get not having to make the massive journey to our shores that their opponent will endure. The negative of fighting here for Aussies is, I think it doesn’t truly build your global profile the way getting to fight in America or anywhere else around the world can.

But with the reworking of the main event now including mega star Ronda Rousey and the addition of a second title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Valerie Letourneau, those negatives may have been overcome.

As I wrote last week Lawer vs. Condit would have been the better fight, but when Ronda Rousey fights people tune in. Now throw Joanna Jedrzejczyk in that mix and there will be a lot of PPV buys outside of Australia and a lot of great exposure for our Aussie.

All that’s left for our home-grown heroes to do now is to get in there and prove that they can be a drawn if they are put on cards outside of Australia.
